There is something about a chill in the air and a lack of leaves on the trees that makes us put away the pretty pastels and beach brights in favor of more somber shades. In the past I’ve opted for eggplant as a reprieve from the blacks, greys, and beiges that often dominate a winter wardrobe, but this year I’m still obsessed with oxblood. A bit deeper plum-brown than burgundy, oxblood is eye-catching yet surprisingly versatile. I first dabbled in the color by sporting an oxblood pout and nails against my sparkling emerald green cocktail dress for the annual firm Christmas party (I used Christian Dior lip liner in Sweet Plum topped with Bobbi Brown lip color in Crimson and L’oreal Infallible gloss in Mirror Underneath and China Glaze in Prey Tell), and have now been looking for more ways to incorporate the shade into my wardrobe. Are you embracing Marsala as the color of the year or bucking the trend for a richer hue?
