Hollywood’s Biggest Night

After a long week of traveling for work, a night in to watch the Oscars was exactly what I needed. I picked up a few favorite snacks and snuggled up on the couch with my hubby and and pup to watch the show. We munched on Bourbon Vanilla Butterscotch popcorn, Rosemary White Cheddar popcorn, Marcona almonds, and macaroons. The red carpet was a bit underwhelming this year with few majorly fashion forward moments, though exquisite tailoring was a theme of the evening. A few of my personal favorites were Chrissy Teigen in her daring, but delicate pale blue Zuhair Murad gown, Reese Witherspoon keeping it classic in black and white Tom Ford, and Rosamund Pike having her best red carpet ever in a similar hued Givenchy number. What was your favorite red carpet moment?

Snow Day Style

I have always been a fan of cable knit, but have to admit that I have completely fallen for the zippered sweater trend. The metallic accents really elevate the look of a plain sweater into something a bit more exciting. I particularly liked this Michael by Michael Kors sweater because it had both a cable knit design and zippered detailing. The little bit longer length in the back was also a bonus so that I feel comfortable wearing it over knit pants as well as jeans. I couldn’t resist pairing it with my cable knit cuffed wellie socks and heading out in the snow! The bright pink wool coat and lip really pop against a blanket of white, freshly fallen snow.IMG_1393

Oscar Party Inspiration

The Academy Awards is my Super Bowl. Every year I get excited to watch the who’s who of Hollywood arrive in style and spend an evening talking fashion and films. The Oscars red carpet is my favorite because fashions trend towards old Hollywood glam and stars and starlets go all out to make sure they are perfectly polished and coiffed. It’s a classy affair and I like for my watch party to be the same. Try asking friends to dress up a bit…maybe slipping on a embellished top and a swipe of red lipstick. I also like to gather a few decorative accents that enhance the theme of the evening. Inspired by this black and white tablescape by Le Cupcakerie featured on divinepartyconcepts.com, I’ve rounded up a few party-perfect picks to set the mood. How are you celebrating awards season this year?

Valentine’s Day Gifts for the Guys

Slide1

While Valentine’s Day is often all about the girls, sometimes guys like to be shown a little love as well. I’ve put together a few finds that I know my husband would love. He was born and bred in the south, but has a sincere appreciation for a well-tailored suit and quality leather goods. A slim card case slips easily into his pockets without adding bulk, and he loves the perfect fit of a Ledbury shirt. Mark & Graham’s secret message cufflinks allow you to hide a message behind hammered metal, and Bulleit Bourbon with an issue of Gun & Garden is a great way to relax at the end of a long week.

Valentine’s Gifts for the Glamour Girl

When it comes to Valentine’s Day, I certainly don’t say no to flowers and chocolate, but prefer a feminine gift that makes me feel flirty and pretty. Something sparkly, whether shoes, jewelry, or sparkling wine, always does the trick, but I’ve rounded up a few more practical gift ideas as well. This Julie Vos “Babar” shawl is oh-so-cute and warm for the remaining winter days and let’s not forget to wear sunglasses, even in the winter. Every girl knows that a quick swipe of a favorite lipstick instantly lifts her spirits. What are you getting your valentine? I’m guessing mine would love nothing more than a good old-fashioned love note (maybe tucked into a new wallet or tie box).Slide1

Crowning Glory

Nothing puts a bounce in my step like freshly trimmed, styled, shiny, bouncy hair. I was lucky enough to meet the fabulous Nadine Matar at PR at Partners shortly after moving to the DC area and have converted several of my friends to loyalists. She truly gets to know and understand her clients to make sure they step out of her chair looking and feeling their best. For me, that means keeping my brunette locks a rich hue with lots of shine. After being snipped and styled, I took to the streets of Old Town to hit a few boutiques with one of my long time friends and played a bit of fetch with my precious pup, Nutmeg, before the weekend was over.

Sparkle & Stripes

This morning I was up bright and early to brave the crowds for the 10th annual Alexandria Boutique Warehouse Sale. This once a year event features almost 25 of the top boutiques from Alexandria and The District allowing shoppers to snag designer deals while the boutiques make space for warm weather styles. I opted for a simple casual outfit, pairing a classic striped shirt with skinny jeans and sparkly flats, as I prepared for several hours of standing and shopping. I scored a super cute pair of blush suede pumps by Butter and spent a few hours catching up over coffee and bargain hunting with one of my besties.Sparkle and Stripes 1 Sparkle and Stripes 2 Sparkle and Stripes 5 Sparkle and Stripes 6 Sparkle and Stripes 7 Sparkle and Stripes 8 Sparkle and Stripes 9

Sweater Weather

It has been so cold lately that I’ve been living in skinny jeans, thick sweaters, and riding boots. I was so excited when this jewelry neckline sweater arrived from Chicwish earlier this week. It was my first Chicwish purchase, so I was not sure what to expect in terms of quality, but was pleasantly surprised by the beadwork on the neckline as well as how plush and snuggly it is.
