Finding My Perfect Fit

We all know that an errant bra strap, the wrong bra, or an unsightly v.p.l. can ruin the perfect outfit. In thinking about revamping my wardrobe, I needed to start with the foundation. I started branching out from Victoria’s Secret for lingerie basics a few years ago when I discovered Journelle, but had to admit that it was time to give my drawer a refresh. With being pregnant and then breastfeeding, investing in new bras hasn’t been at the top of my list in quite some time. Needless to say, it’s also been since pre-baby that I was properly sized. The thought of trekking out to get measured wasn’t appealing in the least, so I decided to give ThirdLove a try.

You download the app to your phone and the fit finder guides you through taking two simple photos. Based on markers that you set on the photos, and your answers to a few basic questions, the app magically generates your predicted perfect fit. The truly amazing thing is that it is precise even to the half-cup size (which ThirdLove has introduced)! After learning my new size, which included a half, I went back to browsing their beautiful collection. In the spirit of buying what I need and is practical for my life, I settled on their basic 24/7 t-shirt bra in naked 1 (really a soft pink), the 24/7 lace t-shirt bra in evening-blue, and the front closure lace racerback in soft-pink because it’s really too pretty not to. I also threw in a few matching seamless cheekies for good measure.

When my new bras arrived, I was pretty happy overall. The fit finder truly did it’s job, and the quality is just beautiful from the gold hardware detail and lace down to the ribbon trimmed straps on the 24/7 t-shirt bra. Ribbon straps…be still my heart. I may exchange the 24/7 t-shirt bra in naked 1 for the same thing in naked 2 since the color is a bit too light to be a true nude for me, and ThirdLove has recently introduced a range of nudes so not only can you find your perfect fit, but also your perfect match!

Have you tried ThirdLove yet? What is your favorite color/style?

Snow Play

We survived winter storm Jonas! Though we saw a couple of feet of snow, we were lucky not to lose power, and welcomed the sunny day today. After Ted helped the other guys in the neighborhood shovel our sidewalks and a path between our houses, we bundled up and headed out for a walk around the block. The snow was almost up to my knees, and Tad’s snowsuit was a tad too big, but we had fun anyway. (Hint to new mamas shopping for a snowsuit…Ralph Lauren sizes run quite large. This was a 3 month size, the smallest I could find, but it was still very large.) Hope everyone is staying safe and warm!

Date Night with Rocksbox

It’s true what they say, “You can take the girl out of the South, but you can’t take the South out of the girl.” Since moving to Alexandria, we’ve been saying that what Old Town really needs is a great southern restaurant, and I couldn’t have been more excited when I heard that a new place was opening on King Street called Magnolia’s. If Magnolia’s isn’t a classic southern restaurant name, I don’t know what is! In true southern girl style, a hair appointment is always a reason to go out to dinner, so that’s exactly what we did and Magnolia’s did not disappoint. Wanting to dress up a little, I selected an eyelet peplum top paired with white jeans and blush pumps for a pop of color. My latest arrival from Rocksbox contained the perfect assortment of sparkle to glam up a classic black and white ensemble. The classic color scheme allowed the jewels to take center stage, and we all know that I love a little (or lots) of sparkle. The delicate Wanderlust + Co heart ring and SLATE studs were a lovely complement to the bold necklace so that the look wasn’t over the top. I was so taken by the Perry Street Floral Crystal Necklace that I decided to purchase it. Unlike other subscription services, Rocksbox allows you to opt to purchase pieces you love instead of giving only a short window to return the things you don’t, and operates under a wear and return model. This allows you to request special occasion pieces that you may only want to wear once without feeling pressured to buy, or having to fret over precise timing since you return whenever you’re ready and the subscription is on a monthly basis, much like Netflix. You even get $10 each month in “shine spend” towards any piece you’d like to purchase, and the purchase prices are discounted from retail. Every girl knows that jewelry can truly transform an outfit, and Rocksbox allows endless options. What are you waiting for? A free month? Well, go ahead and give it a try! White & Pink on Princess Street

Besides the many boutiques and restaurants, one of the great things about living in Old Town is the rich history behind many of the historic homes and streets. Princess Street is one of the few streets that is still paved with cobblestones, and though not friendly to a stroll in heels, is a popular spot for engagement photos with couples from across the metro area. Ted and I enjoy strolling around the streets of Old Town on the weekends, often stopping for lunch or an ice cream cone. We usually vary our route around town because we always notice a historic plaque or cute town home that we haven’t seen before. If you’re ever in the area, I highly recommend heading over to this part of town for brunch at Jackson 20 or Virtue Feed & Grain and shopping on a Sunday afternoon. Bishop Boutique, Duchess M, and The Shoe Hive are a few of my favorites!IMG_2246IMG_2239 IMG_2225 IMG_2228 IMG_2229 IMG_2230 IMG_2233 IMG_2235IMG_2236IMG_2283IMG_2280IMG_2289IMG_2303

Art & Elegance

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and enjoyed the beautiful springtime weather! Ted and I were glad to get out and about after spending the morning in the car driving back from visiting my parents in Pinehurst, North Carolina. We always enjoy getting back to the South and savoring sweet tea, a slower pace, and good ole Southern hospitality. We ventured down to Canal Center Plaza to take in the views of the Potomac and see if we could catch a glimpse of the cherry blossoms. A big thank you to Ted for taking a few photos of me as well! I finally bit the bullet and bought this dress after having eyed it for days on end while passing by J. Crew on my lunch break. I’m so glad I finally stopped in because by the time I did, it was the last one in the store. It’s such a great dress for work or some of the springtime events I have coming up like fundraisers and baby showers. I can already tell it is going to be one of my favorite additions to my wardrobe this season.
